Moat Index
Understand the number without losing its evidence, uncertainty and limits.
What the Index measures
The Moat Index is a 0–100 opinion on the durability of competitive advantage, using supplied evidence. Read its assessment and sources; the number cannot describe the entire business. The scoring method stays proprietary. This guide explains capabilities and interpretation.
The four bands
Exposed, Emerging, Defensible and Fortified are the four band labels. Bands summarise the assessed barrier and its evidence. They are not survival probabilities or an investment recommendation. Missing proof can weaken a reading even when the company has a plausible advantage.
Range and confidence
Quote the displayed range and confidence beside the number. Incomplete, stale or conflicting evidence remains uncertain. Include the reading date and returned method label when comparing or sharing. Compare like evidence and check for method changes.
What it does not establish
A reading does not establish market fit, legal rights, a company valuation or future returns. It does not independently verify every supplied fact. Treat it as a way to organise questions, then test the evidence and alternative explanations. Explore the example reading and the FAQ for practical limits.
